We take the safety of our users very seriously and understand that users on Tellonym need to feel safe to have a positive experience. Unfortunately, inappropriate behaviour is a risk with any kind of communication platform. Tellonym was designed in a way that provides a user all the tools needed to always have the full control. We do have several safety features available within our Services which are in place by default but we provide many options to customise your experience on Tellonym.
What we recommend to be the first thing you do:
If you are underage, we recommend highly to speak with your parents about a responsible approach to the internet and how to navigate safely through it before you use any kind of communication platform.
In every case, please make sure to keep in mind how Tellonym was designed. Messages only get public if you answer them - if you delete them or block the sender, nobody will ever find out. Therefore you always have full control over what messages can be seen by your friends. We give you the tools to stop inappropriate behaviour at the very beginning, so please remind yourself that you always have the option to ignore messages you receive.
In the settings of your app, you can adjust the level of your language filters under 'Safety Options'.
Only Tells from Registered Users
By default, you can receive messages from everyone that finds your profile in the internet. Everybody can just send you a message without having to register. You can turn that off which may increase your overall protection since we are able to keep out users that already registered of our Services more effectively. Keep in mind that this would also decrease the amount of received Tells strongly.
If there is any topic you don't like that comes up in your messages, you can add specific words to your Wordfilter. Our language filter are looking for one of those words in every received message. If there is a message that contains exactly one of the added words, it gets removed without further notice.
Check Out the Other Options
Of course, the listed options aren't the only ways to protect yourself within Tellonym, but those are best suited for preparing before using Tellonym. We recommend to check the rest of our Safety Center to find out more!
